Bayley the Bichon, round two!
Bayley's owners were so happy with the first drawing that they commissioned a second piece, much to my dismay
I thought I was done with white curly fur for a while but it was not to be!
I had this photo below, which had such a lovely expression but because he was so full of beans and couldn't sit still long for the camera, I lost his left ear! Luckily I had another photo from a similar angle.
A quick bit of Photoshop merging and I had this...
So now it was time to start drawing and this is where I am so far.
This time I have approached the drawing very differently, using indenting very very sparingly and trying to rely on more rendering than "tricks". Instead of laying down a flat tone first and pulling my clumps of fur out with the eraser, I'm trying to draw the darker areas in with the pencil and not rely on the eraser much, if at all. Also I will not add a dark background to this one, I really want to challenge myself to make Bayley stand out without having to cheat with a dark background hah! I am hopeful that all this will result in a better quality drawing as I was very unhappy with the results of the last one. Onwards and upwards!

Re: Bayley the Bichon, round two!
What a great photo, he looks a very happy little dog. I am sure he will turn out beautifully Krissy. I don't agree that having a dark background is 'cheating', whatever helps to get where you want to be is OK by me! look forward to more!
